Pukapukara

The original Inca name is unknown. However the current name, Pukapukara, means ‘Red Fortress’. This name is due to the tone that its stones take in the light of twilight. Pukapukara was a military garrison protecting the Inca Baths of Tambomachay.  Then, together with Sacsayhuaman, it constituted part of the defense system of Cusco. From one of its towers you can see the ruins of Tambomachay.
