Train Companies to Machu Picchu
There are two authorized rail companies operating the route to Machu Picchu:
- PeruRail: Has the highest frequency of daily departures from Cusco (San Pedro / Wanchaq / Poroy stations) and Ollantaytambo. Services include Expedition, Vistadome, Vistadome Observatory, and the luxury Hiram Bingham train.
- Inca Rail: Operates primarily from Ollantaytambo and Cusco, featuring services like The Voyager, The 360°, The Premium, and The First Class.
Departure Stations
- Ollantaytambo Station (Sacred Valley): The most popular and frequent departure point (approx. 1 hour 45 minutes by car/van from Cusco).
- Poroy Station (Cusco): Located about 25 minutes from downtown Cusco (open during the dry season).
- San Pedro / Wanchaq Station (Cusco): Direct departures or bimodal service (bus + train) starting right from Cusco city.

1. Standard Tourist Class (Expedition / The Voyager): Comfortable seating and large windows at the most affordable rates for travelers.

- Book in advance: Train tickets often sell out weeks ahead during peak travel season (May to October).
