The Weather
In Cusco City, the climate is pleasantly cool, although it can change suddenly, from radiant sunshine to a heavy downpour, in just minutes. Therefore, it is advisable to be prepared for these brief rains, even if arriving during the Dry Season.
The department in general presents a variety of climates and landscapes because it possesses a great diversity of elevation zones. Thus, in areas below 2,000 masl we find several types of warm climates. In intermediate zones, the climate is pleasantly temperate. While in highland zones (from 3,700 masl and above), cold temperatures dominate. The city of Cusco is located in a transition zone between temperate and cold climates, which is why it can be visited at any time of the year. The uniform dry climate occurs across almost all seasons of the year: sunny during the day and cold at night. The rainy season in Cusco runs from December to March. The average temperature in the city is 15u00b0 C.
